Focus Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 12, 2026

Focus (“Focus”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is a productivity and study application designed to help users create focused study sessions, reduce digital distractions, understand their study progress, and build better productivity habits.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Focus processes, why it is used, how Android permissions are used, and how you can request deletion of your account and associated information.

1. Information We Collect

We collect and process only the information necessary to provide the Focus experience and the features you choose to use.

Account Information

When you create a Focus account, we may process:

  • Username or display name
  • Email address
  • Account identifier associated with your Focus account

Focus does not store your password. Authentication credentials are handled by the authentication service used by Focus.

Study and Focus Session Information

When you use Focus's productive timer and study features, Focus may process information necessary to provide those features, such as:

  • Focus session information
  • Session duration
  • Timer information
  • Study-session progress
  • Information required to generate your productivity report

This information is used to help you understand your study sessions and identify areas where you may be able to improve your productivity.

Information Related to Enabled Permissions

Some Focus functionality requires Android permissions. These permissions are used to provide specific features rather than as a general-purpose method of collecting personal information.

Depending on the features you enable, Focus may use:

  • Accessibility access: Used by Focus's distraction-blocking functionality to help restrict configured applications while a productive timer is active.
  • Display over other apps: Used to display the Focus timer and relevant focus-session information over other applications when the productive timer is active.
  • Notifications: Used to provide Focus notifications related to sessions, reminders, and other enabled productivity functionality.
  • DNS or related blocking settings: Where enabled, these settings may be used as part of Focus's distraction-blocking functionality.

The exact permissions available may depend on your Android version and the features enabled in Focus.

2. How We Use Your Information

Focus uses information for the following purposes:

  • Providing Your Account: Your username, email address, and account identifier are used to create and maintain your Focus account and authenticate your access.
  • Running Productive Timers: Information and Android permissions required by the productive timer are used to run focus sessions and provide the distraction-blocking functionality you choose to enable.
  • Creating Study Reports: Focus may use information from your focus sessions to generate reports about your study activity. These reports are intended to help you understand your study patterns, recognize progress, and identify areas that you may want to improve.
  • Providing Notifications: Where notification permissions are enabled, Focus may send notifications related to your productive sessions and other enabled functionality.
  • Maintaining and Securing the Service: Information may also be processed when necessary to maintain the application's functionality, troubleshoot problems, protect accounts, prevent misuse, and maintain service security.

3. Android Permissions

Focus requests Android permissions only when they are needed for specific functionality.

Before using features that require additional permissions, Focus explains or requests the relevant permissions from you.

You can manage these permissions through your Android device settings.

You can choose not to grant or later revoke a permission. However, disabling a permission may cause the Focus feature that depends on it to stop working.

  • Accessibility Permission: Accessibility access is used for Focus's application-blocking functionality during productive sessions. Focus does not use accessibility access as a general-purpose method for collecting unrelated personal information.
  • Display Over Other Apps: This permission allows Focus to display the productive timer while you use your device. It is used to provide the timer experience when the relevant feature is active.
  • Notifications: Notification permissions and settings are used to provide relevant Focus notifications. You can manage notification permissions through your Android settings.
  • DNS or Blocking Configuration: Where the user enables a DNS or related blocking configuration, it is used as part of Focus's distraction-reduction functionality.

4. Study Reports and Productivity Insights

Focus may generate a report based on information associated with your productive study sessions.

These reports may help you understand things such as your focus-session activity and consistency and may provide suggestions about areas where you could improve.

These reports are productivity tools, not professional, medical, psychological, or academic advice.

Focus does not guarantee improved grades, academic performance, productivity, or any particular outcome.

5. Authentication and Account Security

Focus uses authentication services to create and secure user accounts.

For email-based authentication, Focus does not store users' passwords in plaintext. Authentication credentials are handled by the authentication service used by the application.

Your account information may be associated with your Focus user identifier so that your account and supported features can function correctly.

6. Cloud Services and Third-Party Providers

Focus uses third-party services that may process information on our behalf or provide infrastructure required for the application.

Firebase

Focus uses Google Firebase services for application infrastructure and authentication.

Firebase Authentication may be used to:

  • authenticate Focus users;
  • create and maintain account identities; and
  • securely manage authentication credentials.

Firebase Cloud Firestore may be used for supported Focus account or application data that needs to be synchronized or stored through our cloud infrastructure.

The information handled by Firebase depends on the Focus features you use.

Google Play Services

Focus may use Google Play Services to provide Android platform functionality required by supported features.

Google Play

Google Play provides application distribution and may process transactions where applicable.

Third-party services operate under their own terms and privacy policies.

7. Information We Do Not Intentionally Collect

Focus is designed around the information needed for its productivity features.

We do not intentionally collect unrelated personal information such as:

  • passwords stored by Focus;
  • your contacts;
  • your personal photos or videos;
  • microphone recordings;
  • precise location information; or
  • SMS or private messages,

unless a future Focus feature specifically requires such information and the relevant privacy disclosures are updated beforehand.

8. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information.

Information may be processed by third-party service providers when necessary to provide Focus functionality, such as authentication, cloud services, Android platform functionality, application distribution, or other services you choose to use.

We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to:

  • comply with applicable law or a valid legal request;
  • protect the security of Focus or its users;

9. Data Retention

We retain account and Focus-related information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the application's features and maintain your account.

The amount of time information is retained may vary depending on the type of information and the feature through which it is generated.

When you request account deletion, we will process the request and delete or otherwise handle associated information as applicable, subject to information that we may be required or permitted to retain for legal, security, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, or other legitimate purposes.

11. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Information transmitted between Focus and supported cloud services is protected in transit using encrypted connections such as HTTPS/TLS where applicable.

No electronic transmission or storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Children's Privacy

Focus is a productivity and study application.

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information directly from children under the age of 13 in circumstances where such collection is prohibited by applicable law.

If you believe that a child has provided personal information to Focus in circumstances where it should not have been collected, please contact:

We will review the situation and take appropriate action where required.

Parents and guardians should also review the permissions and account features enabled when a minor uses Focus.

  • enable or disable notification permissions;
  • choose whether to use features requiring additional permissions;
  • manage your Focus account; and
  • request deletion of your account and associated information.

Disabling certain permissions may prevent related Focus features from functioning.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Focus's functionality, data practices, third-party services, or applicable legal requirements change.

When we update the policy, we will change the Last updated date at the top of this page.

We encourage you to periodically review the Privacy Policy.
